I love pajamas. I love slippers. I love the fact that I now work from home while wearing these items and still make money! For 20 years, I was a part of the corporate world. You know the one…the world of uncomfortable clothes, shoes that kill your feet, friends that aren’t REALLY your friends, and working yourself silly only to turn a profit for somebody else. That was MY corporate world. I’m only imagining that it’s pretty much the same for virtually everyone.
My decision to leave that world behind was a very difficult one to make. I actually loved what I did for all those years and made a really good living at it. It’s hard to turn your back on a career that you actually enjoy. The reason I did it, however, was to experience the freedom that you DON’T get when you have that “great” corporate job. I’m pretty sure my friends and co-workers all thought I was crazy to give up the international travel, the nice paycheck and the security that came along with the job. Who knows? Maybe I am crazy! Maybe this new lifestyle of mine is only a dream and reality is out there waiting for me. Maybe it won’t work. But maybe, JUST MAYBE, it will. I can promise you that I will do everything in my power to make it a success. Following my heart’s desire and trusting in God to see me through, I feel pretty confident that it WILL work.
I am dedicated to helping other women see that there IS a solution for the common working mom dilemma. You CAN chaperone your children’s field trips without having to ask permission and without feeling guilty. You can make every dentist appointment, softball practice and dance recital without having to explain your crazy schedule to your boss. Only other working mothers can understand the pressure women feel in the office. For some reason, there are certain bosses that don’t understand when our kids get sick, when they call us from school with a headache, or when they are just upset and need their mom. The beautiful thing about working for yourself is that you are THERE for your family, no matter what. You are in total control of your schedule…and that freedom is exhilarating!
For the past four months since leaving the corporate world behind, I have been helping my husband run our Coastal Vacations business from home. I am the marketing/advertising/public relations/training/accounting/administrative department and he is the sales staff. My husband and I have a great working relationship and enjoy the new closeness that my joining the business has brought us. My daughter (who will go to high school in the fall) is thrilled to come home after school and have me waiting at home already. All her life, I have worked outside the home and this has been a wonderful experience for all of us. She loves having me at home and I love being here.
